Janet Peters grew up in San Diego’s North County.  As a kid she was an avid event rider, competing her horse Fightertown through Preliminary Level.   She switched to dressage in her late teens and in 1980 began working for Harry and Helen Polonitza at Seabreeze Farm, assisting in their large breeding program while riding, breaking and showing the young horses.  She met Guenter Seidel there and worked as his assistant for many years, running a training business of her own on the side.  She has ridden extensively with such dressage legends as the late Dietrich von Hopfgarten and Robert Dover.  After marrying Steffen Peters, Janet eventually moved her business to his barn and has been a successful dressage trainer ever since.  Her students think she is the best kept secret in California!

Janet is a USDF Bronze and Silver medalist.  She trained Eclipse, Sebelius and Zorina, all horses she owned and broke herself, and many clients' horses up to FEI and won numerous awards with them from CDS and USDF over the years.  She later loaned Eclipse to Kerry Schmidt, a young rider who won the team gold on him at the NAYRC at Tempel Farms in Chicago.   As the wife of an Olympic Team member she was exposed to world class dressage training on a daily basis, traveling extensively throughout the United States and Europe getting a behind the scenes view of many CDIW competitions, including the Olympic Games in Atlanta.

Janet has helped and inspired numerous students and horse owners over the years, breaking and training countless horses of many breeds up through the levels.  Her classical style and strict adherence to correct basics gives her students a solid foundation for success, whether they desire to win championships or just enjoy their horse on a higher level of communication.  Janet is especially gifted in schooling young dressage horses.  Among others, she is currently competing PowerPlay, owned by Berit Kinter, who made his PSG debut in 2006, winning at the CDS-SD Chapter Fall Show against tough competition with a 70%!  Watch for this exciting pair at Intermediare in 2007.
